Cruising for Baby-Boomers

Baby-Boomers can find the perfect cruise for their needs. There are cruises for families, singles, seniors, gay/lesbian, concerts and lectures, world cruises, luxury cruises, and cruises to nowhere. There are also themed cruises; party cruises and sober cruises also.

Generally, music and entertainment are the highlights of a cruise, but I’ve been reading that some cruise lines offer experiential cruises with authors and motivational speakers. (That would be my ideal cruise – so many authors and speakers to choose from: Neale Donald Walsch, Richard Bach, Gregg Bradden; John Grey, etc. )

An article on USNews travel section lists the best cruise lines and you can search using various criteria such as affordable vs luxury, location (i.e. Caribbean, Mediterranean, Alaska), family or couples.

A ship’s size is a good guide to the type of experience one is likely to expect. An article from Cruise Critic points out some considerations in choosing the ship size versus just the cruise line.

Off-season, low-season cruising varies depending on what part of the world one is in or traveling to. I know several people have taken cruises during the off-season in North America, called repositioning in the shoulder season.

Repositioning is when a cruise ship is being taken from one location it had been operating in during peak season, and is now being ‘re-positioned’ to a new location for a new high season (i.e. being re-positioned from Northern Alaskan waters to the Caribbean).

I know so many people who have taken the Alaskan cruise. I know another friend who recently experienced her first cruise down through the Caribbean.

It’s my dream to experience at least one cruise in my lifetime. There are so many types and destinations that I haven’t yet researched and picked a destination or cruise line yet.

Have you gone on a cruise? What was your experience?
